Virginia Small Grains Field Day Showcases Diversity in State Agriculture
The 2009
Small Grains Field Day for Virginia producers highlighted a broad range
of seed varieties, seed treatments and production practices. This year's
event, hosted by the Virginia Grain Producers Association (VGPA) in
cooperation with Virginia Cooperative Extension was held at the historic
Corbin Hall Farm.
According
to Molly Pugh, VGPA executive director, the education event was a great
success in bringing a large number of Virginia's producers together
to learn more about the technologies and studies available to producers
in today's agriculture industry.
Educational
events such as this bring together small and large agriculture operations
who both need to be well informed of the field research underway. It
provides important tools for Virginia'ss grain producers. Having the
most updated, accurate information allows them to make decisions that
maximize profitability and protect their viability for the long term.
Agriculture
is constantly changing; especially,in the Mid-Atlantic region. With
increasing environmental pressures, legislative mandates, price, and
weather, every risk management tool available to the producer is an
important one.

The Virginia
Grain Producers Association felt the need to illustrate the ongoing
collaborative efforts by the agriculture community and the environmental
community to ensure a healthy and sustainable ecosystem.
The VGPA feels that the show will not fully address the complete facts
