2016 Virginia Grain Open Golf Tournament Recap

Great weather and a well maintained course greeted farmers and agriculture industry representatives for the 2016 Virginia Grain Open on August 5th at Piankatank River Golf Club. Over 100 golfers participated in the tournament to benefit the Virginia Grain Producers Association.

Golf Pro John Abbott Kicks off the Tournament

The tournament began with a networking lunch and warm-ups on the driving range. At noon, Golf Pro John Abbott read the rules and kicked off the tournament with a shotgun start. Players worked their way through the course enjoying views of the Piankatank River and the adjacent grain fields. Longest drive, closest to the pin and hole in one competitions were arranged throughout the course. Fleet Brothers, Inc. sponsored the grand hole in one contest with a prize of your choice between a new John Deere Gator or a Massey Ferguson utility tractor. Despite the players' best efforts, we did not have a hole in one!

As teams returned to the clubhouse from a game of golf they enjoyed a hearty prime rib dinner, awards ceremony and raffle. The proceeds of the 50/50 raffle, were donated to the VGPA scholarship fund to benefit the education of an agriculture student in the Commonwealth.
